A big thanks to everyone for their kind words and encouragement! After I completed three surgeries in three months for my eye--and was unable to salvage the vision in it, my husband ended up in the hospital for 19 days and had two surgeries of his own.

He was diagnosed with Grave's Disease and Myasthenia Gravis. He has been home from the hospital for several weeks and is finally able to go back to work part time. He's still being fed from a tube in his stomach, but he is also able to swallow some things, and the list of foods he can swallow is growing.

I couldn't have made it without his family's willingess to take over with his 24/7 care and give me some rest.

Now I'm back at work full time and enjoying being in my new classroom with my students. We're getting geared up to start making the items for our craft fairs, and I can't wait to post some of them here on my blog.

Flower Fantasia!

This was the option I gave those who wanted more "girly" pages! I'll probably use them to scrap the multitude of pictures my husband took of our Crepe Myrtles since they are different shades of pink. With all the extra rain this summer, their blooms really took off!

Once again I used Basic Black for the background paper. The photo mats are Whisper White and Rose Red. The large flowers are Regal Rose.

I just love how the Basic Black background makes everything pop! And the flower punches add just enough embellishment without being overwhelming. I can't wait to finally put my pictures on these pages!

Out of This World!

These are pages I made at a workshop in May! I finally got my digital camera charged up so I could share the pictures!

The hostess knew some of her friends weren't big stampers (imagine that!), so I focused on the quality of our cardstock and our fun punches.

I'm planning to use these pages for a field trip my 7th graders took to the Planetarium, but I offered them as an option for those with little boys. I used Basic Black for my background paper, Summer Sun and Pumpkin Pie for my photo mats, and Pacific Point for the planets.

These pages would look really sharp with our new in-colors: Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango, and Bermuda Bay!

More Razzleberry Lemonade

This card uses two of my favorite prints from the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. I just love purples and pinks together, and I think the addition of Crushed Curry really made the flowered pattern pop! I used Crushed Curry cardstock for my base, the strip of eyelet, and the sentiment. I really had fun with my punches on this card, too. I used the ticket corner punch on the DSP, the eyelet border punch, and our new modern label punch for the sentiment. Isn't it a cool shape? The ink for the sentiment is Melon Mambo. I'm already in love with that color!

Just a Little Thanks!

Thanks to those who sent such kind responses after my last post! My third surgery was yesterday, and at the follow-up appointment today, the surgeon told me things went "as expected." The main purpose of this surgery was to remove the cataract that had developed after the second surgery and prepare my eye for the final surgery later this month.

I'm so excited about the new catalog launching today! Don't you just love the new in-colors? Since purple is my favorite color, I was very happy for the Rich Razzleberry cardstock that I used as the base for this card. I also stamped the sentiment in Rich Razzleberry on Whisper White cardstock and matted it on the new, Crushed Curry cardstock.

The DSP on the card comes from the Razzleberry Lemonade pack and also showcases the new in-colors Melon Mambo and Dusty Durango. I love the variety of patterns in this DSP pack, so you'll definitely be seeing more of it!

New Catalog

Can't wait for the new catalog to go online next Wednesday!

I've made several cards using the new products and can't wait to share them with you. Most of them are thank you cards since that's what I've needed.

For those of you who don't know, I've been off-line since the end of March due to health issues. I had surgery in April and again in May to try to preserve the vision in my left eye. I have another surgery scheduled next Tuesday and one more in July. After that, we will have done all we can do.

I was worried about how the loss in vision would affect my crafting, but so far, I've been able to focus on small projects. I haven't tackled a double-page spread, yet, but the new in-colors and DSPs are already inspiring me to try.

I look forward to sharing my creations with you!

Last Christmas Layout--for Awhile!

This is another Christmas layout I made at the retreat. It's also based on a sketch I used for one of my birthday layouts.

The layout uses some of the DSP from the holiday mini catalog, and I borrowed my friend's Cricut to cut the title again.

I haven't journaled, yet, because I have a lot I want to say and need to type my feelings to fit them all in the box on this page. I like the way this layout uses the Ticket Corner punch to give it a different look. I need to use that punch more often!

Christmas Album Cover Page

This is the cover page for my Christmas album. It's yet another variation of the page I made with the Raspberry Tart DSP for my goddaughter's photo and with the Candy Lane paper for my birthday pictures. I'm just in love with this page map! I used papers from the Holiday Mini for this page and layered some Felt Flurries for my embellishment. I'm also beginning to wonder how I ever survived without my lace border punch. I hope we get more border punches like this when the new catalog comes out this summer. Like all my pages, this one is 12 x 12, but this page map could easily be scaled down to fit a smaller page--especially since the Felt Flurries came in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Holiday Treasures Layout #2

This is the second layout I made with the Holiday Treasures DSP. I left room for a title and subtitle as well as a little journaling.

I love the way the poinsettia DSP goes with the plaid, and I just had to use some of the Chocolate Chip 1/4 in. grosgrain ribbon instead of matting the poinsettia paper for a little extra shine.

I also added round tabs in the plaid paper and centered each tab with a circle fire brad for more "blingability." Now I just need to find the perfect Christmas pictures for the pages!

Holiday Treasures Layout #1

Everyone loved the patterned poinsettia paper that came in the Holiday Treasures DSP. It was so much fun to make pages with that I tried to make it go as far as possible. The photo mats on this layout were perfect for the out takes I found when sorting my pictures.

The left-hand page was originally designed for the poinsettia DSP to go on the left side with room at the top for a title. But since I had two vertical shots, I flipped the page, numbered my photos, and plan to journal in the blank spot to the right.

I used a friend's Cricut to cut my title and numbers out of Pink Pirouette card stock. I really like the way it looks with the flowers and lightens the feel of the layout.

Christmas in March?

I can't believe my spring break is almost "sprung"! It started off at a scrapbooking retreat in Dixon, Texas. This was our first time to go there, and we had a blast! There was a lot more cropping space than our previous location, plus each bedroom had its own private bath. Wow!

Believe it or not, but this was the first time the people who ordered my 20 page Christmas kit had a chance to get together and make their pages! This is another double-page spread I created from the I Wish Simply Scrappin' Kit. These kits are definitely the best bargain around.

The left-hand side uses the I wish . . . title from the kit.
The right-hand side uses the stickers from the kit that tells what I wish for!

Pink Flamingo Layout #1

My best friend and her husband just got back from a cruise to the Bahamas, so I ordered the Pink Flamingo DSP to use in her scrapbook. All I can say is "Wow!" Some of the patterns look like they were cut from the back of Tom Selleck's shirts when he starred on Magnum P.I. !

The flower embellishments are the new Sizzix Embosslits dies. I love how they both emboss and cut out the image for you. So-o-o-o-o simple to use! The three dies that are shown here are SU! exclusive. I layered the SU! Real Red Cherry Blossom die-cuts on top of the Summer Sun Simple Flower ones and alternated them with Tempting Turquoise Flower Burst images. The borders still didn't look "finished" to me, so I punched holes with my retired 1/4 in. circle punch and added them for a little extra pop!

I'm not sure how I ever scrapped without the Stampin' Up Sizzix Top Note die! I added parts of it to each border in Tempting Turquoise so I can add a title when I get Judy's pictures, and she can do a little journaling. I hope she likes the completed pages!

Celebrate You Candy Lane Layout

I liked the layout I made for my goddaughter so much that I decided to use the sketch again to make more birthday pages with the Candy Lane DSP. I replaced the flower embellishment with the circular Celebrate You stamp from the Party Hearty set and put a pink rhinestone brad in its center. I also added three small pink rhinestone brads under the photo mats.

Since this isn't going to be framed to stand alone, I made this page to go on the right-hand side with more leftover DSP scraps. I also tore the papers at the bottom of the journaling block to mimic the torn paper on the opposite side, and I punched two small circles to continue the circular theme.

This is how the pages look when they're put together. The colors are more striking in real life. The flash bleached out the DSP on the left-hand side. I can't wait to get use these pages at the scrapbooking retreat I'm going to next weekend.

Embellished Raspberry Tart Layout with Photo

Right after I finished making this page, my goddaughter, Kayla, sent me this black and white photo for my birthday. It was perfect for this layout. I added her name with a Sizzix alphabet, made two more flowers with the fire red circle brads, and added stitching with my white gel pen. When it was done, I framed it in a glossy black frame. She'll be so excited when she sees it, and I'll get to enjoy looking at it every day!

Raspberry Tart Single Layout

Last weekend I took an online class with this page map. I used the patterns of Raspberry Tart DSP I hadn't tried, yet. This shabby chic type page isn't my normal style, but I liked the way it worked. Tomorrow I'll post the finished page with my god daughter's picture.

Birthday Blasts

You may have noticed recently that I've made quite a few birthday pages. As soon as my pictures are ready, I'll be using them and making even more!

My birthday was last Saturday, so two of my classes threw me birthday parties on Friday, and one of them threw a party on Monday. There was so much good food I almost feel like auditioning for a Rolaids commercial!

While everything was wonderful, my favorites were the home-made flan Angelica brought to the first party (I'm a flan addict!), the sliced barbecue soft tacos with cilantro and green sauce Yesenia brought to the second party (I'm a BIG fan of green sauce), and the cake and ice cream Tucker brought to the third party that also included a petite cake for me to take home and share with my husband. Isn't it cute?

Raspberry Tart Layout #3

Putting this layout together was so much fun! I challenged myself to use the DSP and Rose Red cardstock scraps from my previous layouts, and this is what I came up with.

Textured Kiwi Kiss cardstock became my base, and although you can't tell it in these photos, the strips made from the new Lace Border punch are actually DSP in Rose Red with a light pattern on it.

I love the way the scraps made me leave my comfort zone and try something different! Even my photo mats are odd sizes for me, and I've tried not to crop and fix all my photos before I print them so I can experiment. To finish it off (before I add pictures, a title, and journaling), I used my Round Tab punch to make embellishments from the other side of the DSP. After this experience, I definitely think scraps rock!

Raspberry Tart Layout #2

I'm still in love with the Raspberry Tart DSP and the SU! exclusive Sizzix Sweetest Stem Embosslit die. The die was made to match the Raspberry Tart paper and really embellishes it well.

While this page may look like it has strips of the DSP on it, I actually used strips of the Real Red textured cardstock to divide the DSP because I happened to have them left over from another project. This particular DSP has white in it so I decided to use Whisper White as my photo mats. I also used Stampin' Dimensionals to pop the die-cut flowers.

I left room on the right-hand side to put my title, and I may do my journaling with the awesome SU! white gel pen. I think it would look really good written on the red cardstock strips on both pages. Tomorrow I'll post the pages I made from the scraps of the first two layouts!

Raspberry Tart Layout #1

After working with the peaceful tranquility of the SAB Designer Series Papers, I decided I was ready for something different! The new Raspberry Tart DSP is bursting with juicy colors: Kiwi Kiss, Real Red, Rose Red, Cameo Coral, and Pretty in Pink. I'd already been warned by fellow demos at SCS that a little goes a l-o-n-g way, so for my first layout I chose one of the more subtle Kiwi Kiss designs and threw in one of the brighter DSPs for embellishment.

The DSP I used for embellishment also gave me a chance to use my new SU! exclusive Sizzix embosslit, Sweetest Stem. If you've never used an embosslit, they are amazing! They cut and emboss at the same time! How easy is that?

And to add a finishing touch, I used my build-a-brads and punched one of the little flowers out of the DSP to accent inbetween the embossed stems. Voila! What an easy accent to make to tie everything together.

SAB Layout #4

I saw a magazine layout that used 2 x 2 squares and thought I'd try it, but the pattern didn't work for my pictures, so I came up with this instead.

I put a title strip on the left and made the mat large enough to hold two photos. I also used the new SU! lace border punch and like how the lace edge compliments the old-timey feel of the quilt squares. I also used my 3/4 in. circle punch to make buttons and put them on Stampin' Dimensionsals so they wouldn't interfere with photo placement later.

I didn't get the idea to use the new lace border punch until I'd already glued the mats down on this page, but I didn't let that stop me! I just made lace edges to attach to the photo mats and used the Bashful Blue cardstock to cover where the two pieces of Whisper White came together. I liked the look so much that I used it on the other page as well. I hope you're enjoying the pages I'm making with the SAB paper; it is so versatile!

Good Morning Sunshine Layout #1

When I received my Good Morning Sunshine paper in my order last week, I'd planned on making a layout with the retro-flowered paper first. Even though green is one of my favorite colors, the Kiwi Kiss and Summer Sun used in this DSP were a bit over powering for me!

Then I got the idea of matting with Pacific Point, and it all came together. Especially when I realized I could replace the centers of the pears with 1/4 in. Pacific Point circles! That gave me the excuse to use my favorite SU! white gel pen to make the seeds and also add a little Whisper White card stock for contrast. I love how the blue and white pop on the page! I even used Stampin' Dimensionals so my punched pear would stand out.

The mat on this page holds two 4 x 6 photos. I included two more punched pears on Stampin' Dimensionals for embellishments and half of the SU! exclusive Sizzix Top Note die for my title box. My new SU! exclusive Sizzix Billboard alphabet strip has really been getting a work out since it came in. I used it to make my title letters.

SAB Layout #3

This layout is based on a Becky Fleck page map in the January/February issue of Memory Makers magazine. It's definitely more labor intensive than my previous layouts, but I love how it show cases so many SU! products.

This side uses the new lace border punch, Sizzix Scallop #2, the Boho Blossoms punch, the SU! exclusive Little Leaves Sizzix die, and the SU! exclusive Billboard Alphabet Sizzix strip die. I also used the retired SU! 1/4 in. circle punch and wish I'd ordered extras since it makes the perfect faux brads around the right-hand side of the scallop.

This side also uses the Little Leaves Sizzix die to create the vine image, the Boho Blossoms punch, the 1/4 in. circle punch for the flower centers, the lace border punch, the Billboard Alphabet strip die, and the beautiful SAB So Saffron ribbon. I really love how the blue-patterned SAB Designer Series Paper makes the flower centers pop. Now I can't wait for spring to get here so our yellow roses will start blooming and I can add their pictures to these pages!

SAB Layout #2

This layout is based on a scrap map by Heather Summers, a Canadian SU! demo. I had so much fun using the SAB Designer Series Paper, Certainly Celery Ribbon, and Polka Dot Punches stamps on this layout. This DSP was designed to match the stamps, so everything is super easy to coordinate!

This page will hold 4 photos. I used my new Sizzix Billboard Alphabet Strip to make my title, IMPROV. I love the subtle white stitching on the DSP. It looks tons better in real life!

For some reason, the letters didn't show up as well in the photo of this page, but I used the same alphabet for my sub title, Instant Challenges. This page will hold three photos or two photos and journaling.

Wait until you see SAB Layout #3 tomorrow! I used more of the SAB products, including the So Saffron ribbon, and one of my new SU! exclusive Sizzix Dies. I can't wait to share what I came up with!

SAB Layout #1

Last Tuesday, we took our DI teams to an Instant Challenge Workshop/Competition, and I took tons of pictures! The kids did an excellent job and came back ready to work hard to prepare for competition on February 28th. I came back ready to whip up some quick pages to use when the pictures are developed!

This page is based on a layout in the current Scrapbooks, etc. magazine. The blue mat holds two 4 x 6 photos. The pages in this double-page spread use Certainly Celery cardstock for their background and the new SAB Designer Series Papers for embellishments. This package of DSP contains 16 sheets of double-sided papers in Certainly Celery, So Saffron, Sahara Sand, and Bashful Blue. I love how light and "springy" they look! Also, the items in this year's SAB catalog coordinate so there's So Saffron and Certainly Celery ribbon as a selection, and the patterns on this DSP match the stamp set in the catalog that also goes with all our punches.

My first order from the new catalog arrived this week. Along with the cool new SAB products I earned, I was excited to get the Bigz Serif Essentials alphabet. I'd been waiting until SAB to order it since it qualifies for 3 SAB items by itself. I love the way it looks on the DI FUN title.

Hand Drawn Bundle Layout #2

This is another layout based on one by melonystamps. I changed it to a birthday theme and used some more DSP from my Level 3 Hand Drawn Hostess gift.

The layout by melonystamps used flowers where I put the half-circle tab and the small grey circles. Her DSP was more feminine and the flowers looked perfect with it. Since I wanted this layout to work for either males or females, I decided to go with the circles instead.

The white cardstock that covers part of the circle was also placed higher on her layout, but I wanted to leave room around the circle to put a title later. My new Sizzix alphabet will be perfect!

Hand Drawn Bundle Layout #1

I don't normally post layouts with pictures in them, but I got so excited when I was making this layout for our DI teams' Instant Challenge practice that I was halfway through it before I realized I hadn't taken pictures before I added them!

The striped and notebook paper DSP come from the new Level 3 Hostess Set, Hand Drawn Bundle. The bundle includes DSP, stamps, and rub-ons that could be used for a variety of occassions. I plan on using my new Billboard Sizzix Strip alphabet when it comes this week to make my title letters and place them on the striped paper strips. I'm going to journal on the convenient notebook paper lines under the pictures.

When I finished the basic layout, I decided it was too plain. In the pictures the students were using paper plates to build something, so I put strips of cardstock through my crimper and used my 1 inch circle punch to cut them out. In real life it's easier to see how the circles on the paper mimic the plates in the pictures. I can't wait to add the finishing touches and take this layout to school to display in my classroom. The kids will love it!

Candy Lane Layout #4

When melanystamps posted her layout on SCS this week, I knew I had to try it with my Candy Lane scraps! I already had the perfect pictures for it, so I rearranged the elements to accomodate them.

I love how this layout uses the spiral punch to create a place to hang tags! I never would have thought of that! Since I'm getting geared up for SAB (it starts Sunday!) I pulled out some retired SAB tag stamps and other retired tag stamps to find ones that would fit my pictures. I also dug out my Totally Tabs stamps that are still current to make the cool design on the tab. I love that punch!

This layout also gave me a chance to use my star punches. This is the first time I've layered them, and I like the way they helped me stretch out my scraps! I'm going to put my title and journaling in the upper-left and lower-right hand corners and can't wait to add these pages to my book.

Candy Lane Layout #3

This is my third layout using the Candy Lane DSP. It's based on one of Stampalooza's challenges at SCS. The Candy Lane DSP is Close to Cocoa with a pattern so light it doesn't really have a color and could be either Pirouette Pink, Whisper White, or Very Vanilla. I used Baja Breeze cardstock for the background and Chocolate Chip and Pacific Point cardstock for the photo mats.

The challenge called for nature stamps, so I mounted the Live Like You Mean It hostess set I got at the very end of the last catalog and stamped three of the flowers at various heights to look like a bouquet. I even used my Double Circle Punch to create tiny Pacific Point centers for the flowers.

I stamped the word LIFE on this side of the layout then made buttons to go on both sides with two of our circle punches. I really like the way the Pacific Point pops in the buttons and as photo mats. This is a very simple but elegant layout.

Candy Lane Layout #2

This layout is also based on a layout by nicholejanette at SCS. I always need birthday pages, and she had a cute layout that used the stamps from last year's SAB. I changed the paper colors, substituting Close to Cocoa cardstock for my background, striped and dotted Candy Lane DSP, Very Vanilla for the paper I stamped, and Riding Hood Red for my mats.

Since the dotted DSP is Pink Pirouette, I stamped the small circle package from my Party Hearty stamp set in Pink Pirouette, one of the party hats in Close to Cocoa, and the party hearty phrase in RHR on the Very Vanilla card stock. For embellishments, I also stamped the cupcake in all three colors, cut them apart, and mixed and matched them so the cupcakes would look like they had icing. I sure wish we had Stampin' Write Markers in the in-colors! I used Stampin' Dimensionals on the cupcakes and on the date label I made with my oval punches.

For embellishments on this side, I used the cupcake and the celebrate you stamps. I stamped celebrate you twice. I punched out the Close to Cocoa version with my 1 3/4 in. punch and the design from the Pink Pirouette version with my 3/4 in. punch and glued them together. Both were attached with Stampin' Dimensionals. I really like how these pages turned out!

Candy Lane Layout #1

This weekend while I was looking for ideas to help me finish up my I Wish Simply Scrappin' Kit pages, I found this layout by nicholejanette on SCS. I hadn't used my new Candy Lane DSP papers, yet, so I decided to see what I could do with them.

The original layout used circles instead of scallops, but I decided to do something different. I also made my own background paper by wheeling So Swirly across my Riding Hood Red ink pad and covering the Pink Pirouette cardstock with it. Then I used the small flower from Flight of the Butterfly and Chocolate Chip ink to add some contrast.

I also matted the Riding Hood Red DSP from the Candy Lane pack with RHR cardstock to separate it from the background and added Chocolate Chip mats for the pictures. This isn't my usual style, but I like the way it turned out and plan to use my Big Shot to cut letters from Chocolate Chip cardstock for my title once my pictures are in place.

The Christmas holidays were incredibly crazy and fun!

I made an 8 x8 scrapbook for my sister-in-law and a 7 x 7 scrapbook for my mother-in-law. I also painted the 4 1/2 x 9 inch chipboard clipboards gun metal gray and adhered Dallas Cowboy themed paper to them for my brother-in-law and nephews. And I gave my MIL, SIL, and mother handmade cards to send out in the new year.

Needless to say, when it was over, I was exhausted!

Last Friday I met with friends to scrapbook and start using my stash of Simply Scrappin' Kit pages. By the end of the night, I had pictures cropped and added to 26 pages. Now I just need to find time to go back and make titles for the pages and journal on them.

I love having pages ready to use so that all I have to do is match the pictures to them. I can't wait to see what the SSKs look like in the new catalog that comes out this month.

Christmas Craft Fair

The Christmas Craft fair for our junior high Destination Imagination teams was December 11th and 12th. What a relief to finally have it over!

Instead of pricing everything individually, we priced them by "table" and had $1, $2, $3, $5, and $7 & $10 tables. That worked out extremely well for us.

Surprisingly enough, our most popular sellers were the $1 gift card holder ornaments pictured on this tree. I'm not sure which batch this is because each time we'd finally make enough to fill the tree again, a new person would come in and buy all of them! One customer purchased the 13 that we had in stock and special ordered 7 more!

We had tons of the little mini portfolio gift card holders in stock, but the ones that hang from the tree beat them hands down. We also sold quite a few packages of the reindeer food that's pictured on the left. It wasn't ready until the 2nd day, and I think we'd have sold a lot more if we'd had it ready the first. Several people came and bought stuff from our $1 table to give out as Christmas presents for their children's day care and elementary school class mates. We sold all of our pillow boxes filled with M & Ms for that reason--before we even had a picture of them!

Although the students really enjoyed making these Sizzix boxes, they didn't sell as well as we'd hoped. Part of the problem was that the heater in the gym foyer got too hot the first day and the adhesive in some of the boxes started "melting" and those boxes deflated like balloons! We sold the majority of the whisks we'd made and will probably offer them again next year. I'm not sure how many of them actually made it home as Christmas presents and how many were quickly emptied of their candy by hungry students!

These were the altered frames on the $7 and $10 table. We sold most of the large ones and received several special orders for the word frames. I don't have any pictures of the frames on the $5 table because we couldn't keep them in stock, either! The small frames were sized to hold 4 x 6 pictures, and some customers were snapping up two and three at a time. We'll definitely be offering them again. Instead of wearing the DI team members down, this craft fair seems to have pumped them up! They want to have another one in the spring closer to Mother's Day and Graduation. Since our DI competition is February 28th, we'll have plenty of time to get ready!

Giving Thanks

Last month I was scheduled to do a workshop for my friend, Carol, and had to cancel due to illness. She'd asked for Thanksgiving themed pages, and these were the ones that I designed.

I'd planned on letting her guests choose between using the markers and

aqua painters or pastels and the blender pens to shade in the stamped images.I left the inside of the scallops plain so people could journal, add a date, or put a quote.

I thought these would be the perfect pages to post as I wish you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

O' Christmas Tree

After working with the Real Red, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive papers in the SSK, I needed to do something completely different and came up with this!

I haven't decided if I'm going to use these pages for more of my ornaments or for various Christmas trees we have around the house!

I could also take pictures of the trees at the different family members we visit over the holidays and display them here. The scalloped circle die-cut stickers are raised by stampin' dimensionals again. The dimensionals have become my new best friends!

I've been playing around with the I Wish Simply Scrapping Kit since I ordered it back in September. At first, I wasn't too crazy about the Chocolate Chip color that's included this year, but the more I worked with it, the more it grew on me!

This is one of the first double-page spreads I created. It uses a cardstock sticker raised by scrappin' dimensionals as the title on the left-hand side and includes an actual wish list raised by scrappin' dimensionals on the right side.

If I don't make a picture collage, I'll probably use Chocolate Chip cardstock to mat all my photos.

Gift Cards

This weekend I fell in love with these gift card holders that kspiv at SCS posted directions for!

We've been looking for a variety of holders to offer at our craft fair on December 11th and 12th, and these were exactly what we needed.

If you have any of the 6 x 6 DSP pads that are offered as level 1 hostess gifts, they are the perfect size. The gift card holder on the left is made out of Real Red and the one on the right is last year's in-color, Wild Wasabi.

To make the card holders, you score the paper at the 3 inch mark, turn it, and score again at the 4 inch mark.

The 2 inches at the bottom fold up to form a pocket on the inside for the gift cards. I made mine similiar to the card portfolio I posted awhile back and cut a small V at the fold to help the holder close easier. Sticky tape holds the outer edges closed, and I used my Crop-o-dile to punch holes for a ribbon tie.

The fronts of the holders were easy to decorate, and the students will have fun decorating them for the craft fair.

October Hostesss Gift

These were the pages I made for my October Simply Scrappin' Kit hostess. I gave them to her along with a sampler of the Juntos Designer Series Paper I used to create them.

Since SU!'s partnership with Sizzix, in August, I've really enjoyed using my Big Shot to create die-cuts for my scrapbook pages. The F for fall and the pumpkins are all made with Sizzix dies.

So were the leaves on this page. My favorite part of these pages is the Juntos Designer Series Paper that can be ordered from our Hispanic Supplement. I love the fall colors and patterns in this paper, so I tried to use as many as possible on the leaves, pumpkins, and decorative strip. I also edged the leaves and pumpkin with Mellow Moss ink to help them pop off the pages. Now I'm ready for the leaves to finish changing so I'll have pictures to go on these pages!

One Craft Fair Down/One to Go!

Yesterday was Country Fest in Mt. Vernon, TX, and students on the DI teams I manage sold their wares outside of M. L. Edwards & Company Emporium on the square. While the stamps they used were SU! only, many kind people donated supplies for us to work with, and we were more than happy to use them!

We sold over half the bags of Autumn Trail Mix and Texas Trash that the students made on Friday afternoon. The rest will go quickly when we get back to school tomorrow. I'm very thankful to my friend, Ellen, for giving us the Autumn Trail Mix recipe last Wednesday. We started using it on Thursday, and it's been a BIG hit. Plus we're super excited to have something to sell that doesn't have to be coated in white chocolate almond bark first!

We had one table (the one with the green cloth) of $1 items that sold well. Besides the bags of trail mix and trash, we had the large decorated magnet paper clips, the garden pebble magnets, and the chocolate mints covered with scallop circle toppers. One set was white with ghosts. The other was pumpkin pie with spiders.

We also sold quite a few cards on this table. Most of them were my examples from classes I've taught over the past six months since some of our "helpers" on Friday managed to damage the majority of the cards the kids had ready to sell. Fortunately, most of them were not damaged beyond repair, so we should be able to rework them in time for our craft fair at school at the beginning of December.

Our other table had items ranging in price from $3 - $10. We sold almost all of the little trinket boxes we made (thank you, Dollar Tree!), most of the altered Halloween letters, most of the small altered frames, a few medium altered frames, and two large altered frames.

The kids were disappointed that none of their framed words sold. We'll need to decide if we should add more embellishments to them or lower the price, but in this economy, we had a hard time moving the $10 items.

One of the teachers at our school donated tons of tiles to us. We stamped small and medium-sized tiles with StazOn. We hot glued matching ribbons on the back to make them wall hangings and sold about 2/3 rds of the ones we took. We even got a special order for one from a customer who offered to pay in advance. That was one of the highlights of the day.

The main benefit of the craft fair (besides the money the students earned) was the fact that it was an incredible bonding experience for the children, and by the end of the day, they'd turned into very savvy sales people!

5th Best Ever Spread - Part 1

This is the right-hand side of our final Best Ever double-page spread. When I took all the photos on Sunday night, I still didn't have the rest of it finished! I used my Sizzix Big Shot to create the Ridinghood Red photo corner at the top. I was going for a more sophisticated look with these last pages since I'm always struggling for the appropriate pages to scrap my mother-in-law's birthdays. I used Stampin' Dimensionals for the cardstock sticker in the center and added Kraft cardstock to the kit for the mats. I took my camera to work yesterday to start taking pictures of our Craft Fair items and forgot to bring it home. As soon as I take the rest of the photos of these pages, I'll add them to my blog.

4th Best Ever Double-Page Spread

This double-page spread was easy peasy to make!

The only DSP I had to cut was the strip on the left-hand side of this page! Once again, I used Stampin' Dimensionals to make the circle stickers "pop" on the left-hand side.

And the faux DSP at the bottom of this page is actually a boarder sticker placed on top of the Ridinghood Red word border sticker! How simple is that?

I used Stampin' Dimensionals under the cupcake stickers so it would be easier for people to go back and add their pictures. I also did something daring for me by mixing up the photo mats instead of lining them up by size. I like the funky way it turned out!

This is my 7th Simply Scrappin' Kit to design, and the hardest part is keeping the pages from all looking the same! While it would be fun to use circular mats or very odd-shaped ones, I try to stick with variations of the 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 size to make it easier for people to use uncropped pictures or photos that just need a little trimming.

That way they can adhere their pictures fast and spend their time focusing on journaling, titling, and the other little techniques that personalize the pages we make in our club.

3rd Best Ever Double-Page Spread

This is the 3rd double-page spread my Simply Scrappin' Kit Club will make on Sunday. I must say it's one of my favorites because I love the color green, and Kiwi Kiss is really growing on me!

People who scrap with me know most of my layouts are very symmetrical. I like everything balanced and even, but when I saw the Make a Wish sticker and the cock-eyed cupcake on the samples that come with the kit, I just had to use them on a layout. If anyone asks me about it, I'm going to "blame" the crooked cupcake on the candles since I used more on this layout than the others! :-)

Whenever I design the pages for the month, I try to include one set like this to give scrappers with LOTS of photos of one event the chance to collage as many as possible.

And while I love the way Kiwi Kiss and Baja Breeze look together, I added a small strip of Ridinghood Red under the cardstock sticker strip on each page to make it really stand out.

One of the things I love most about using these Simply Scrappin' Kits is the way they encourage me to move outside my comfort zone and try colors I normally wouldn't think to put together. Now that I've worked with these pages, I know I'll be using Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss, and Ridinghood Red together a lot more while they're In-Colors.

2nd Best Ever Double-Page Spread

This is the 2nd Best Ever DPS. I must say I'm falling in love with Ridinghood Red! I mourned the loss of Purely Pomegranite when the in-colors changed, but I'm finding that Ridinghood Red is every bit as versatile.

The DSP that came with this kit is very eclectic. One sheet is playful with bright stripes on one side and fun circles with words in them on the other. The other sheet is more elegant with words on one side and a pin-striped kraft colored design on the other.

There are plenty of cardstock stickers to match both sets of DSP designs, and for some reason with this kit, I find myself reaching for my Stampin' Dimensionals more than usual. I just had to use them underneath the circle and star on the right-hand side.

And while I like my pages clean and simple, I realize a lot of my club members need to pack as many pictures as possible on a page so I've left space in the upper left-hand corner and on the right-hand border for more photos if needed. I could definitely envision some circle-cut photos adding extra whimsy to these pages.

Best Ever Simply Scrappin' Kit

The hostess for the October Simply Scrappin' Kit Club chose the Best Ever kit. This kit is very unusual in that it uses THREE new in-colors and whisper white, and I love how these colors look together IRL.

While the kit does include a lot of flower embellishments, this month's hostess chose this kit for one of her friend's son's birthday pictures, so I went with more of the circular elements on my pages. People with girls could easily switch out the circles for flowers.

I also used more Stampin' Dimensionals than usual to really help the accent elements "pop." Our club meets next Sunday, so I'll be posting the other four double-page spreads this week.

Craft Fair

I spent the weekend working on craft fair items. This is one of the picture frames I made. It uses Bella Rose DSP, Old Olive Ribbon, and one of the Hodgepodge Silver Ribbon Slides. It looks better IRL than it does in the photograph.

I also tried my hand at coaster calendars. This one uses Summer Picnic DSP, Old Olive CS, Real Red Striped Grosgrain ribbon, and Old Olive ribbon. I also used Real Red Classic ink around the edges.

If it were sitting on someone's desk, this is the side that would be facing outward. I can't decide if I want to do anything else to it.

Card Packet Directions

Everyone has been so nice about the hostess gift I posted last week that I feel guilty about all the attention it's received!

My upline learned how to make the card packets at convention and taught us at a team meeting when she returned. Several people have asked for directions, so I thought I'd better post them.

I'm not very good at writing directions, but this is what I've been telling everyone who has asked:

1. Using an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of cardstock, score at the 5 1/2 in line
on the 11 in side (or score to divide the paper in half on the long side).

2. On the 8 1/2 in side (short side) score at the 2 1/4 in mark.

3. Once you've folded on the scored lines, it makes the card holder.

4. Cut a small V on the bottom flap of the card holder so it looks
like the inside of a pocket folder kids use at school. (You can
use sticky strip on the outside part of the flap to help keep the
cards from falling out or the flap from falling down.)

5. Use your Cropodile to punch holes at around 3 inches from the
bottom on either side. (You want to make sure the holes are
above the bottom flap.)

6. Cut ribbon long enough to fit through the holes and tie a bow.

7. You want the majority of the ribbon on the inside so it will keep your cards in place.

8. Make two cards to fit in each pocket with matching envelopes.

My students are helping me make more of these to sell at a Craft Fair for a fund raiser, so I'll be posting more examples sometime this week.

Hostess Gift

This is what I gave the September Simply Scrappin' Kit Club hostess today. It had one sheet each of Ridinghood Red and Kiwi Kiss 12 x 12 patterned paper and two 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of each of the new in colors.

I also included this card packet with her stuff. I learned how to make it when I attended my team meeting and fell in love with it.

When you open it, there are two birthday cards and two thank you notes inside. The Old Olive 1/4 inch ribbon that ties the packet shut also holds in the cards so they don't fall out.

The birthday cards are made out of Ridinghood Red cardstock. I used a retired jumbo dotted wheel down the right side and matted some Bella Rose DSP with Kiwi Kiss. Then I stamped the birthday greeting with Kiwi Kiss and used the Scallop Punch to cut it out.

The thank you notes are made out of Kiwi Kiss cardstock. I used a retired jumbo rough edged wheel down the right side and matted some Bella Rose DSP with Ridinghood Red. Then I stamped the greeting with Ridinghood Red, punched it with the Scallop Punch, punched a small circle out of Kiwi Kiss, and used a Stampin' Dimensional to make it pop!

Final UR Sweet Layout

This is the final UR Sweet Layout for the Simply Scrappin' Kit Club that meets this Sunday.

On the left-hand side, the scrapper can choose to put her title on one of the 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 gray mats, the smaller gray mat, or even on the journaling sticker, and to go along with the school theme, I used the spiral punch at the top of the gray mat for the journaling sticker so that it looks like a page ripped out of a mini spiral.

On the right-hand side, I wanted to try something different, so I used four square gray mats that will be perfect for those 4 x 6 pictures that are a little off center and need to be cropped. I also used Stampin' Dimensionals to make the flower sticker "pop."

This has been a really fun kit to work with, and I'm looking forward to designing pages for our October Scrappin' Kit Club meeting that will be using the Best Ever celebration kit--especially since my husband's birthday is in October!

4th UR Sweet Layout

Can you say school? Since the UR Sweet Simply Scrappin' Kit contains its own faux notebook paper, I just had to design a page with a faux file folder on it! This fake file folder actually mats two 4 x 6 photos, but doesn't it look cool?

Once again I used the spiral punch on the left-hand side of a decorative strip for the left page and then on the right-hand side for the strip on the opposite page. Both strips also double as places to journal or jot down important information.

The Totally Sweet title is actually a cardstock border sticker cut down to size, and I used Stampin' Dimensionals with the flower stickers to make them "pop" and also leave room for photos underneath them.

This was one of my favorite pages because I love how it came together. I can't wait to add my pictures!

3rd UR Sweet Layout

Some of you who have been scrapping with me awhile may recognize this layout. It's one of my favorites. I found it in a magazine last year when I was at a Death by Chocolate Crop in Arlington and used it for a dog layout I was making to swap. For it, I used a gray background with red, black, and white stripes. I liked it so much that I changed the colors and used it in a layout of my dogs that had a beige background and used burgundy, gold, and navy stripes.

Since the Simply Scrappin' Kits come with textured cardstock, I try to design layouts where the texture can show through, and I thought this layout would be perfect for that. I used one of the cardstock stickers from the kit for the title on the left-hand page and the flower and star stickers to embellish the right-hand one.

And although I don't really use tabs a lot on my pages, they came in the kit and added a nice splash of color against the Basic Gray background.

2nd UR Sweet Layout

This is the second UR Sweet layout I made over the weekend. The left-hand side of it is adapted from the UR Sweet packaging. I exchanged the Rose Red background paper in the SU! version for Tempting Turquoise because I wanted to save the Rose Red for a different layout.

I loved that this layout uses the Old Olive ribbon from last spring's Occasions Mini and the flower-shaped ribbon slides from the Silver Hodgepodge Hardware kit. They really give the page a unique look.

It's hard to see on the right-hand page, but the third Basic Gray box at the bottom is embellished with stickers and a journaling box from the kit.

The First UR Sweet Layout

This is the first UR Sweet layout for our Simply Scrappin' Kit Club next Sunday. I had so much fun working with this kit. Three pieces of the DSP are notebook paper on one side and perfect for the SU! punch that makes paper look like it came out of a spiral. I used a small piece of it here for journaling.

The colors in the kit are Rose Red, Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, and Old Olive. I'd never used Rose Red much until the Rose Cottage Simply Scrappin' Kit and this one. It's amazing how well it goes with other colors.

This particular double-page spread is based on a single-page layout that was on the Simply Scrappin' Kit package. I liked two of SU!'s samples this month and incorporated them into our kit club pages. I'll be posting the rest of the pages this week.

The first week of school with students just zoomed past.

Over this (much deserved) three-day weekend, I hope to get started designing the Simply Scrappin' Kit Club pages for September. We'll be using the new UR Sweet kit that came out this month. It has beautiful Taken with Teal, Rose Red, Basic Grey, and Old Olive DSP, cardstock, and embellishments.

Also, our October hostess has already chosen her kit. We'll be doing Best Ever, the new birthday kit that uses three new In Colors (Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, and Kiwi Kiss) along with Whisper White.

Final Rose Cottage Pages

I just finished the final Rose Cottage Simply Scrappin' Kit pages for our club meeting tomorrow. I have to say that I'm sad to be finished with this kit. It has definitely been my favorite so far.

This is the left-hand side. I decided to color block with the left-over pieces of DSP. The rose red DSP on the right-hand side is big enough to mat a 4 x 6 picture if anyone wants three pictures on this page.

More Rose Cottage Pages

This is the left-hand side of the new Rose Cottage Simply Scrappin' Kit layout club members will be making on Saturday. I double matted the vertical photo with chocolate chip and river rock cardstock so it will really stand out.

This is the right-hand side. I am totally in love with these baroque flowers. If you've never ordered a Simply Scrappin' Kit, you would not believe the amount of cardstock sticker embellishments they give you. There are plenty left over after we make our ten pages and three cards to create TONS more with added cardstock.

This is how the pages look put together. The title could go at the top or bottom, and there's plenty of room to journal between the pictures. The vertical photo frame would also make a nice journaling box.

I tried to make these pages simpler since the previous ones were so over the top, but I'm just lovin' this kit, and it's hard not to use a little bit of everything on each page!

Rose Cottage #3

It's a good thing I accomplished so much this weekend. I've only been back at work two days, and I'm already exhausted!

Yesterday the other DI sponsor and I made enough chocolate covered pretzels in two and a half hours to fill fifty bags, so our fund raising should be off to a great start when the kids come back. Today we'll be focusing on making samples to show them for the craft fair in December. Thank goodness for the wonderful ideas I've gotten from SU! and SCS.

This is the left-hand page for the third Rose Cottage Simply Scrappin' Kit layout. It's based on my favorite Stacey L. King sketch. I couldn't resist using it again since the kit had the perfect squares and flowers for it; I also love how this DSP has the beautiful swirls on it.

This is the right-hand side. The DSP has lines on it that would make a perfect journaling spot about a major event. The large space on the right would also be good for a large title or for showcasing a special photo.

This is how the pages look when they're put together. I must say the cardstock stickers in this Simply Scrappin' Kit are some of my favorite. They really give the pages an extra "punch." Too bad my crooked pictures don't do them justice!

Just Another Manic Monday

The weekend flew by! I finished the first set of Rose Cottage pages at 1:30 am on Saturday, went to my team meeting in Allen, spent the rest of Saturday with my husband, and completed two more sets of pages yesterday. Now I'm running around trying to get everything ready to start work on the craft fair at school this week. Manic doesn't even begin to describe how I feel!

This is the left-hand side of the second Rose Cottage layout. I started out with a picture I'd printed from SCS and ended up tweaking the way I placed the photo mats and embellishments to fit my space.

This is the right-hand side, once again adjusted to fit my space. I think the original designer's photo mats may have been for smaller pictures, but a lot of my club members don't like to cut their photos down, so I'm trying to include more pages where they don't have to.

And this is how they look when they're together! The more I work with this kit the more I love its baroque elements. I left the space in the lower right-hand corner blank so they can add their titles or journal there.

When I get home from work today, I'll take pictures of the pages I completed last night and post them tomorrow. I tried something new with them and am anxious for feedback to see if it "worked."

First Rose Cottage Layout

This left-hand page is actually a variation of the page pictured on the outside of the Rose Cottage Simply Scrappin' Kit package. I liked it so much I decided to tweak it a little and use it for my layout.

I didn't get to go to the SU! convention this year, but I just got back from a team meeting where my upline taught us two techniques and a project she learned! It was almost as good as being there!

Plus since my team meeting was two hours away, my husband and I made a day of it and even took the German Shepherd so the two of them could go hiking. Needless to say, my husband took lots of pictures for me to scrapbook while I was "working"!

Friday night, I completed the first double-page spread for the August Simply Scrappin' Kit Club that uses the Rose Cottage SSK. I'll try to get the pictures taken and posted some time this afternoon, but I wanted to work on a few more pages this morning and take all the pictures at once.

Today will be my first day back at work for the 2008-2009 school year.

I'm really looking forward to sharing with you the items my students make for our December Craft Fair, the pages I create with the Rose Cottage Simply Scrappin' Kit for our August Club meeting as well as the UR Sweet pages from the new catalog for our September Club meeting.

Also, be on the lookout for an announcement about our next ribbon share. There are so many beautiful new ribbons in the Fall/Winter 2008 Catalog that I'm having a hard time deciding where to start. I want them all!

Final Boho Blend Layout

This is the left-hand page of my last Boho Blend layout. It can go in any direction, but I'm going to put my title on the Very Vanilla strip at the top and put a vertical picture on either side of the rub-on flowers.

This is the right-hand side. It could also go in any direction, but I decided to arrange it so I could put horizontal pictures on top of the Old Olive dotted DSP. I also used the new scallop border punch to create strips to go underneath it to mirror the scallops on the die-cut sticker strips that came with the Boho Blend kit.

This is how they look together. I'm really pleased with the way they turned out. Especially the rub-ons. These Old Olive ones are left over from SAB, but I can't wait to order the ones in the new catalog.

On a Roll

I'm really feeling the pressure of going back to work on Friday, so I've finished the last two Boho Blend double-page spreads today.

This one is based on a layout by swain78 over at SCS. I wanted something different, and these squares definitely contrast with all the rectangles in the other layouts. Plus the pages were easy peasy to make.

This is how the pages look put together. I like them much better IRL, but this photo gives you the idea of how I alternated the squares of DSP. I also added small dots of Pumpkin Pie cardstock on top of the label stickers to give a faux brad effect after I cut the stickers in half.

I just had to use the exclusive SU! Top Note die in a different way on this layout. I cut it in half and placed it under the top border on the left-hand side. It can be used for a title box, a journaling box, or even a sub-head if you want to put the main title on the top border. So many possibilities!

This is how the completed layout looks, and I must admit that I'm getting a little bored with the design of the right-hand side and its variations. My goal for the last two layouts in this SSK is to come up with something different that will still meet the needs of the members of the Simply Scrappin' Kit Club. Wish me luck!

SU! Exclusive Sizzix Die

These is my 2nd Boho Blend double-page spread, and as promised, it uses the new SU! exclusive, Top Note, Sizzix die! The spread is loosely based on a Becky Fleck Page Map from her awesome book. It was her idea to round the corners of the mats, and I really like it! You can fit 2 - 3 vertical pictures on the left-hand side and 2 horizontal pictures on the right.

Here's a close up of the page with the Top Note Die. I decided to use it as a faux sheriff's badge, but it could also be a journaling box, a title box, or when folded in half, a topper to a treat bag!

I love all the new things SU! has to offer in the Fall/Winter 2008 catalog and can't wait until after 12:00 mountain time when I can place my first order!

Final Crew Kids Boy Pages

These are the final pages I made from the Crew Kids Boy Simply Scrappin' Kit. The idea for the buckle made out of the fancy square die-cut sticker was actually shown on the front of the SSK package!

Since I'd already used the All Boy pages for our dog, Shadow, I decided to dedicate the Our Boy page to my husband. The other page of the spread finishes out his mother's birthday pictures, and the journaling around his pictures tells how happy I am that his parents have shared him with me for the past 28 years. Time flies when you're having fun!

This is the fourth double-page spread from the Crew Kids Boy kit. It's based on the same Stacey King sketch I used for one of the Crew Kids Girl spreads. Can you tell I love this layout?

I waited to post this one until after I'd announced the SU!/Sizzix partnership since it uses a Sizzix alphabet for its title. I can't wait to order the alphabets we'll be offering from SU!

Although I wasn't able to attend convention this year, I have it on good SCS authority that one of the Sizzix alphabets is supposed to fit one of our new chipboard alphas perfectly! How easy will that be?

SU!'s Partnership with Sizzix

Okay, I usually don't post twice in one day, but UPS arrived with my new SU! order that contains my wonderful Sizzix dies.

Yes, SU! and Sizzix have partnered together on an SU! Big Shot and exclusive dies as well as including 29 Sizzix dies that compliment our SU! products. These Sizzix items will be available in our holiday mini catalog, but I couldn't wait to give you a preview!

Naturally, I had to use something on my first Boho Blend double-page spread. I chose the Swirly extended die for this page. I used SU!'s 2-Way Glue to attach it, and it worked really well.

This is the left-hand page. Sorry it's crooked, but I took two photos, and this was the best of the two!

This is the right-hand page. I used the scallop punch on Pumpkin Pie cardstock to put behind the sticker at the top and make it "pop."

This is how they look together. Doesn't the Sizzix die add punch to the page? I'm planning to use one of the exclusive SU! dies on the next Boho Blend double-page spread. Maybe as a journaling box? Hmmmmmmm.

Rub-ons

If you haven't tried SU! rub-ons, you're really missing out! These stars and the arrow came from the Anchored set that will also appear in the Fall/Winter catalog along with a lot of new seasonal rub-ons I can't wait to order.

And people who scrap with me know I'm not much of a journaler, but SU!'s white gel pen is so-o-o-o smooth I couldn't help myself!

The word, ADVENTURE, is also from the Anchored set and perfectly describes my husband's cat!

This double-page spread is also from the Crew Kids Boy set and shows its versatility. My husband is known for taking a series of pictures about a single event, so I try to design layouts that will spotlight his photography.

I'm fortunate to have a husband who supports my scrapbooking by making sure I have lots of pictures to use.

I prefer posting pages without pictures, but since my camera wasn't working at the retreat, and I was on a roll, you get to see how I made the Crew Kids Boy pages work for me.

This is the left-hand side of a double-page spread about Shadow, our half German Shepherd/half Siberian Husky "son."

This is the other half. On the pre-made cardstock sticker embellishment, you can see where I changed the word "hands" to "paws" and the word "toys" to "bones."

All the photos were taken while my husband was on vacation. When the two pages are put together, they look like this:

First Crew Kids Boy Kit Page

Even though my husband and I were unable to have children, I found the pages from the Crew Kids Boy kit very versatile. While the new in-colors are wonderful, I'm definitely mourning the loss of Wild Wasabi. It seemed to go well with everything.

This is one of my favorite layouts from the kit. It is the left-hand side of a double-page spread, and I used it to highlight the restaurant where we met my husband's parents for his mother's birthday.

Back from the Retreat

Just returned from the retreat at Highland Lake Lodge. What an awesome weekend!

French toast, Oriental chicken salad, grilled pork loin--the food was to die for. Plus I completed 40 pages.

The bad news is that my camera battery conked out again, so I didn't get pictures at the retreat or pictures of the Crew Kids Boy pages without pictures on them. As soon as it recharges, however, I do plan to post a few pics of the completed pages.

The Simply Scrappin' Kit Club has met twice (next meeting August 24th), so I had 5 Summer Days double-page spreads, 5 Crew Kids Boy double-page spreads, and 5 Crew Kids Girl double-page spreads to finish as well as the page kits from the Scrapbook & Card Buffet back in May.

My wonderful friend, Carol, made each attendee a name frame. The one pictured below is mine. Thank you, Carol!

August Simply Scrappin' Kit Club Selections

We had so much fun at the Simply Scrappin' Kit Club meeting yesterday!

Two of the girls making the Crew Kids Boys pages finished all ten pages and their three cards in two hours. I was definitely impressed.

For August, we've chosen Boho Blend and Rose Cottage. Since they'll no longer be available after August 10th or while supplies last, we decided to suck it up and try to complete both of them in one day. Wish us luck!

This afternoon is the next meeting of the Simply Scrappin' Kit Club. We're doing Crew Kids Boy or Crew Kids Girl pages today.

If you haven't tried Stampin' Ups!' Simply Scrappin' Kits, you are missing out! They are chocked full of supplies. Each month we make five double-page spreads and three cards, and we still have plenty of embellishments left to make more.

New Crew Kids Girl Sample

I finally found my camera and took a picture of the left-hand side of my latest Crew Kids Girl double-page spread. I got the idea from one of Stacey King's layouts. She's an awesome scrapper on SCS.

This is how the entire layout looks. I left room on the right-hand side to put a title.

A lot of my friends scrap multiple pictures per page, so I made this layout for them.

And while I was at it, I snapped a picture of the new paper stand my DH bought me for two cents! Isn't it awesome?

My New Paper Stand

If I had a camera--it's still missing in action--I'd post a picture of the new paper stand my DH brought home to surprise me yesterday.

It was originally made as a stand to hold poster board, but they didn't need it at the convenience store he manages any more, and the owner sold it to him for two cents!

It's perfect for storing 12 x 12 paper. Each "shelf" holds two stacks. I love it! And it fits perfectly on top of one of the shelves in my new scraproom.

New Pages--No Camera!

With all this moving, I must have put it somewhere "safe," and now I can't find it!

Can you have too much stuff?

I accomplished my goal of moving my shelves into my new scrapbook room and getting the bedroom furniture set up in the old one by Friday night, but it seems like everytime I turn around, I find more scrapbook supplies that have been hidden from view so long I'd forgotten about them!

Until the weights and clothes are moved out of the closet in my new scrapbook room, I honestly don't know where I'm going to put everything. It's overwhelming!

Needless to say, I didn't get any scrapping done last week, but while I was moving, I took the time to look through old pages and found this one I made using the Doodle This set on page 94 in the current catalog. My friend's grand daughter was a flower in her school play, and there were so many pictures of her marching to the stage, that I decided to use some of them as the centers for flowers.

She played a red flower in the performance, so I stamped the doodle flower in basic black ink on real red cardstock, cut the flowers out, and layered two of them together for extra petals. Then I used a circle punch to cut out the background and focus on her. The set comes with two different doodle swirls, so I used them to make the stems. I stamped them in basic black first and then colored them with a green galore marker.

This is the last page in a series of pages I did about the performance.

When my husband comes home from work today, we're supposed to swap out the desks in various rooms, and hopefully, by the end of this week. Everything--including the avalanche of scrapbook supplies I've discovered--will have found a new "home."

New Scraproom!

I'm so excited! I'm finally moving into my "new" scraproom!

When we bought this place three years ago, we'd planned on turning the master bedroom into my scraproom, but the builders took so long renovating the rest of the house, that we moved our bedroom furniture in, and it stayed!

This weekend when we got back from a mini-vacation in Oklahoma, we finally started the process. So far, it's slow going since I'm setting everything up as I move, but the queen-size bed and weight bench are out, and 3 of my six shelving units are in! I've also moved in my small table with my Sizzix supplies and Cricut Expression.

I'm substituting at the junior high again today, but my goal is to have all my scrapping supplies set up by the end of the week as well as the "new" bedroom.

Leftovers from the Buffet!

I've been busy substituting at summer school this week and still haven't had a chance to take pictures of the rest of the pages we made from the Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit, so I thought I'd share another doublepage spread we made at the Scrapbook & Card Buffet on May 31st.

This spread uses Tempting Turquoise for the background paper and Real Red for the mats. We made the "printed" paper on the squares by using wheels on Whisper White cardstock. One had Tempting Turquoise ink and the other had Real Red. Then we went back and handstamped smaller images in More Mustard.

The stars were stamped on More Mustard cardstock in all three colors and cut with the new large star punch. I hope they have more stamps that match it in the new catalog because I love how the stars turned out!

These pages would work well for any pictures, but I'm planning on putting the "stars" of my DI team on my pages.

Another Sneak Peek

This is another page we'll be making in July if you choose the Crew Kids Girl option.

It's part of a double-page spread and was CASEd from SCS. I think the original may have used Wild Wasabi for the page mats, but it's been so long since I made it that I've forgotten.

Crew Kids Simply Scrappin' Kit Class in July

The Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit Class on Sunday was so much fun! I'll be posting more pictures of the projects we made when I get them taken.

In about three and half hours, club members completed 5 double-page spreads for their 12 x 12 scrapbooks and four cards, and we still had enough material left over to make more cards or at least two more scrapbook pages. The amount of materials you get in one kit is AMAZING!

Our next class will be Sunday, July 27th, and we'll be using either the Crew Kids Boy or Crew Kids Girl Kits. Here's a preview from Crew Kids Girl:

Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit Class on Sunday

Since our first Simply Scrappin' Kit Class, based on the Summer Days kit, is scheduled for this Sunday, I thought I'd give you a sneak peek at some of the pages we'll be making.

Both of these pages were CASEd from SCS. Each is part of a double-page spread, and since these photos were taken, I've gone back and switched some of the cardstock flower stickers so I could get as many pages as possible out of the kit.

I also CASEd the 6 x 6 page that uses the kit from the SU! website, adapted it to a 12 x 12 format, and created a 2nd page for it.

The 4th double-page spread is based on a technique I learned at GASC. I can't wait to post it after the class!

The Simply Scrappin' kits usually change when a new catalog comes out, but it's not too late to schedule your own Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit Class. This kit will still be available until August 10th.

Back from the Convention!

I'm back from the convention and might even feel like myself again by the end of the week!

This was only my second time to attend the Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, Texas. Last year I took eight classes and spent a fortune; this year I tried to scale it down. I took four classes and actually came home with money after stopping at Michael's, JoAnn's, and Hobby Lobby.

My best purchase was the new Making Memories storage unit that hangs on the wall. My friend had brought me a 50% off coupon, so I saved $40 on it. I've already cleared a space for it and can't wait to fill it with my stamping supplies and ribbons.

Getting Ready for GASC

The Great American Scrapbook Convention in Arlington, Texas starts tomorrow, and my first class is at 12:30 pm. That means I'll be getting up S-U-P-E-R early to finish packing and get on the road to join my friend who is driving.

Last year was my first convention, and I found it a little bit overwhelming! Fortunately, I took an awesome class with an SU! demo who helped put me at ease, and I hung out at the SU! booth in the convention center when I had spare time.

This year the convention has banned rolling totes, so I had a hard time deciding what to carry. I ended up ordering a Take it ''To Go!'' Tote from JoAnn's.

The tote came in aqua, hot pink, and olive, but you couldn't pick your color. When mine arrived, it was olive, so I decided to personalize it with SU! stamps and Staz-On ink. I wish I'd taken before pictures, but since I didn't, here are some of my after shots.

This is the front of the bag. According to JoAnn's website, it has "1 large pocket with hook & loop closure(and)4 handy slash pockets."

This is the back of the bag. According to JoAnn's website, it has a "zippered compartment(that)has an assortment of storage pockets and tool loops." I was amazed how much room there was inside this compartment.

Besides the awesome organization this bag provides, another selling point of it was that it has an attached hook for this zippered coin purse. What a great place to hide my "mad money." This is the front with my name on it.

And this is the back.

I hope the bag isn't too uncomfortable to carry around. I looked at bags with padded handles, but they were larger, and I was afraid I'd be too tempted to fill them up. The handles on this bag were made to fit around the handle of a tote the next time I'm going somewhere I can take one with me.

Can You Say Retro?

This is another layout from the Scrapbook & Card Buffet last Saturday!

It has a very interesting history. Someone on SCS saw it in an advertisement. I can't remember what it was originally, but they created something similar to the border on the right-hand side to turn into a card front. When I saw it, I thought it'd be perfect for a border on a scrapbook page!

This side of the page is cased from a page in a scrapbook magazine that uses printed paper. I can't remember which magazine it was, but when I saw it, I just knew I could alter it to be the left-hand side of this layout.

I left the big black space at the top for my title. I'm thinking of a retro-styled Sizzlit font cut out of the Whisper White cardstock. Some of the people at the buffet made extra circles in each color and put them on the Green Galore strip at the top on the left-hand side for balance. That looked really nice, too.

When I posted this layout on SCS yesterday, someone commented that it would be awesome for layouts of people playing pool! I hadn't even thought of that, but I can definitely see how it'd work.

Making the white circles off center was a big challenge for me. Someone at the Buffet said they looked like olives, and I agree that olives or pool balls are very good descriptions. I'm such a symmetrical person I always want to line things up perfectly, so it was hard not to put the white dots in the center of each circle. But I have to admit that I love how they look with the circle placed near the edge.

Now I just need some cute pictures to go on these pages!

Friend Layout

This was by far the favorite page kit from Saturday. It uses Pretty in Pink cardstock for a base, Chocolate Chip cardstock for mats and the border, and DPS from the Berry Bliss pack.

Instead of stamping on the cardstock, we used a variety of brown rub-ons from the SAB rub-on pack. Since I rejoined SU! during SAB, I stocked up on the rub-ons to use in classes.

If you've never used SU! rub-ons, they are super easy.

The Spring-Summer 2008 Collection catalog was the first to offer them on page 182. They're made to coordinate with stamp sets, and each package contains a sheet of white and a sheet of black.

They're also on pages 6 and 15 of the Occasions Mini Collection.

I can't wait to put pictures of my friends on this layout!

Simply Scrappin' Kit Club

While everyone was putting together their cards and pages at the Scrapbook and Card Buffet last Saturday, I was making pages from the Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit on page 176 of the Spring & Summer Catalog.

Some of the ideas come from the creative ladies at SCS. Others are original and created by me. The Real Red and Pumpkin Pie remind me of the summer sun while the Wild Wasabi and Bashful Blue make me think of cool water.

Each Simply Scrappin' Kit Club needs at least 8 members who are willing to purchase the Simply Scrappin' Kit of the month. The kits cost $23.76 with shipping and tax included.

Members of each club will take turns being hostess and will receive hostess benefits for that month.

I already have a club that wants to meet one Sunday afternoon a month. It's half full, so if you're interested, you need to sign up quick. The club order for kits will be placed on June 10th.

Since I'm off for the summer, I'd be happy to hold summer kit clubs during the day or on week nights; just let me know what works for you.

Great day at the buffet!

We had so much fun at the Scrapbook and Card Buffet at the Community Center in Yantis!

This is another one of the cards we made. It uses Green Galore cardstock as a base and has flowers from the Stitched Exotics stamp set in Pixie Pink on Whisper White cardstock. The scalloped border was made with the Cricut, the Green Galore swirl is from a retired SU! set, and I added the pen work with black ink to tie in the Celebrate you! phrase at the bottom that comes from a set in the mini catalog. (Don't forget the deadline for ordering from the mini has been extended until the end of June!)

I still need to scan several of the cards and the rest of the scrapbook pages. I'll try to get a few more of them posted before I leave for GASC next week.

It's so exciting when a group of scrappers get together and share ideas!

First Double-Page Spread

Stacey at SCS designed this layout, and I just selected the colors and rotated the page maps a little. I used Brocade Blue, Regal Rose, Old Olive, and Whisper White cardstock. The DSP strips come from the Cutie Pie collection. The journaling stamp comes from the Enjoy Every Moment Stamp set.

I'm including Old Olive corner punches for embellishment, but I wanted this spread to be something that could be used for either boys or girls. That's why I left the title block blank.

I'm not sure why the left-hand side looks so crooked in the photo, but in real life the two sides of the spread line up perfectly.

A Birthday Card for the Buffet

For this card, I used Pumpkin Pie cardstock for the base and wheeled Fast Flowers over it with a Pumpkin Pie ink cartridge. The striped paper is from the Summer Picnic DSP paper from the mini-catalogue and will be available through the end of June. Whisper White cardstock was layered over it.

The birthday sentiment came in the SAB scalloped set. I stamped it in Old Olive ink and cut it out with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch. I used the 1 3/8" Circle Punch to cut a matting circle out of Bashful Blue cardstock. Then I punched a Pumpking Pie scallop with the Scallop punch and punched a tiny circle in each scallop with the 1/16" circle punch. All three pieces were layered and centered.

One of the Thank You Cards for the Buffet

This is one of the Thank You cards I designed. It uses River Rock cardstock as its base. Black ink was wheeled on the River Rock with the Baroque Border wheel, using a black ink cartridge. Thank You was also stamped on River Rock cardstock, using black ink and a retired sentiment stamp. The sentiment was matted with black cardstock and both pieces of cardstock had their corners punched with the Ticket Corner Punch.

I love how this card turned out and plan to give sets of them as Christmas presents, but I'll need to order more cardstock since the River Rock color will no longer be available when the new catalogue comes out in August.

The card uses Old Olive and Whisper White cardstock, Bali Breeze Designer Series Paper, one of the new Die-Cut Blooms, and a sentiment (for you) from the SAB rub-ons.

Wonderful Weekend

Last Saturday I went to a twelve hour crop hosted by my friend, Shela, and got 18 pages done! I'm pumped! Most of them were designed by my SU! friends, Barbara and Kim, but I'll try to get some of them posted to the blog.

I have to warn you, though, that I went crazy with the "bling" on one of them!

Today we're taking our DI teams to Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, Texas, so I'm sure to get lots of great photos there.

And don't forget to sign up for the Scrapbook & Card Buffet at Yantis Community Center on May 31.

I've been swamped fulfilling my 5 1/2 week contract to grade essays online for the state of North Carolina, and SAT scoring for May starts tomorrow and lasts until the 20th, but I promise to get a few sneak peeks posted before the big event!

Craft Fair

Our DI teams have taken over the annual school craft fair for one of our fund raisers next year, so I've been elbow deep in sand paper, saw dust, acrylic paint, and Mod Podge for the past week!

The wonderful woman who ran the craft fair for the past 13 years donated all her leftover materials, so we began organizing all the wooden letters she gave us last Monday.

We have them in varying sizes from 4 inches all the way up to about 9 inches. We'd originally planned to make words until we realized that contestants on Wheel of Fortune weren't the only ones who needed to buy vowels! Except for a few Is, 1 O, and a stack of Us, we were out of luck.

Instead we're altering the letters we do have and letting the students who want them personalize them with words cut from Sizzix Sizzlits. They can also add ribbons and bling for an additional fee.

I had several DCWV pads I'd purchased on sale before I signed back up with SU!, so I donated them to the cause. Rock Star and All Dressed Up were perfect for junior high students.

We'd planned to save them for the craft sale next December, but they've created such a buzz people are already making special requests for Mother's Day and other events.

Who'd have thought we'd end up in the customized letter business?

Orange you cute?

I can't believe the month is almost half over, and I still haven't posted any of the sample pages for my scrapbook and card buffet on May 31st.

The first page is called Orange you cute? and uses the cute orange slice stamp in the new mini catalog. I designed the pages last Monday night but keep forgetting to bring home the cord I need to download the pictures.

Needless to say, April is a busy month for Texas teachers with all the state testing, end of six weeks, etc., but I promise to get the pages added to this post ASAP.

Also, it's still not too late to join this month's Gingham Ribbon Share. Don't forget: you get three of the new, silver, flower-shaped ribbon slides with your ribbons. They'll look awesome on your spring and summer scrapbook pages and cards.

March's Striped Grossgrain Ribbon Share ribbons arrived on Friday and have been sorted, separated, and sacked for delivery. Those ribbons are truly beautiful!

For April's Ribbon Share, I've chosen SU!'s beautiful Gingham Ribbon. At 3/16" wide, it's narrower than the grossgrain ribbon and comes in a wider variety of colors: black, red, light blue, light pink, moss, and caramel.

Participants in this month's Ribbon Share will receive 2 1/2 yards of each of the six colors for $10, plus I'm including 3 of SU!'s new silver, flower-shaped ribbon slides with each order!

Everybody loves a buffet, right?

Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 31st, and make your reservations early for my first Scrapbook and Card Buffet to be held at the Yantis Community Center from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

For those of you who love to gorge on scrapbooking, I'll be designing five different, double-page spreads for $30.

If card making is your cup of tea, you'll have ten different designs to quench your thirst. Make one of each for $10 or pick the designs that best suit your needs and go back for seconds. Or thirds!

You can even order from both "menus" for a well-balanced stamping experience.

Enjoy Every Moment

While I was at the retreat last weekend, I got a chance to use the Enjoy Every Moment stamp set.

The colors in the Bali Breeze Designer Series Paper were perfect to highlight taking our DI teams to Two Senoritas before they participated in an Instant Challege Workshop.

I CASEd a layout from SCS that uses the new My Way Punch.

I love how the arrows spotlight the different team members.

Before I put the pages in my scrapbook, I plan to put the team names underneath each picture on the left-hand side of the layout and place a white journaling box in the center of the teal patterned paper to the right of the title on the right-hand side of the layout so I can write about the experience.
